Shiv Sena MP re-joins Congress
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
FEB. 18.
The former Union Minister, Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, of the Shiv Sena today re-joined the Congress. Mr Patil, who represented the Kopergaon Lok Sabha constituency, was re-admitted to the party today.
While in the Sena, he was Minister of State for Finance and later was promoted as a Cabinet Minister in the Vajpayee Government. He was dropped during the last reshuffle.
His re-entry into the Congress adds a new dimension to the seat-sharing talks now with the Nationalist Congress Party since the latter's nominee had stood second in Kopergaon during the 1999 general elections.
The AICC general secretary, Vayalar Ravi, who was in charge of party affairs of Maharashtra, said Mr. Patil's admission was cleared and he had a meeting with the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi.
