Gewiss to shift production facilities to India
NEW DELHI: Italian electrical equipment major, Gewiss, plans to shift production facilities from Europe to India by closing its Portugal-based plant and sourcing products from its Indian joint venture, Control and Switchgear (C&S) group. "We are planning to shift our Penafiel factory, which produces modular equipment for low voltage installations. This is one of the seven plants operated by the company in Europe and it will be the first time that the Gewiss group will be venturing out of Europe," Gewiss President, Domenico Bosatelli, said here. Recently, Gewiss and C&S had formed a 50:50 joint venture, C&S Gewiss India Ltd., to manufacture low voltage electrical goods. The Indo-Italian JV is setting up its factory at Hardwar in Uttaranchal, which will become operational by the first quarter of next fiscal.
