Be ready for sacrifice, Vasan tells Nagercoil partymen

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, FEB. 18. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, G.K.Vasan, today appealed to partymen in the Nagercoil unit, who are opposing the allotment of the seat to the Communist Party of India (Marxist), to be prepared to ``make any sacrifice'' to ensure the victory of the Congress-led front in the Lok Sabha polls.

A section of the Nagercoil Congressmen has threatened hunger-strike protests demanding the reallotment of the seat to their party.

Reacting to the threats, Mr.Vasan told the media here that Congressmen should work cohesively with the alliance partners and make any sacrifice to ensure that the Congress chief, Sonia Gandhi, became Prime Minister. ``Our objective should be to defeat the communal and corrupt forces,'' he told partymen.

As for the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam allotting seven seats (including Pondicherry) to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr.Vasan said ``rejected and unwanted seats'' had been dumped on the BJP, and it showed ``where the party stands in Tamil Nadu''.

Asked whether the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-Congress combine would continue even after the parliamentary polls, Mr.Vasan said a ``victory alliance'' had been forged and the front formed to preserve secularism in the country would be sustained.
