KOCHI, FEB.18 . A Munsif Court in Thodupuzha has directed K.M. Emmanuel, former president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Thodupuzha Branch, K.E. Paulose, chairman of the Professional Protection Scheme (PPS) of IMA State Branch, and Mohammed Ali, former secretary of the PPS, to pay Rs.1, 000 as damages and also the cost of a suit in a defamation case. The suit seeking damages was filed by D.N. Ramachandra, a member of the IMA. According to the petitioner, he had been asked to leave the dais when the general body meeting of the PPS was in progress in Kollam on May 11, 2002. The former PPS chairman and other defendants had prevented Mr. Ramachandra from speaking at the meeting saying that he was not a member of the IMA and PPS.
