NEW DELHI, FEB. 18. The Indian Association of Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgeons will hold its Golden Jubilee conference at India Habitat Centre here from February 19 to 22. The conference will be inaugurated by the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, while the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Sushma Swaraj, will preside. Participants will be coming from all over India and neighbouring SAARC countries. Also expected are visitors from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S. There will also be deliberation on minimal invasive cardiac surgery and future trends in this field, besides discussion on the use of indigenously made heart valves and other indigenous equipment, which will decrease the cost of open-heart surgery for poor patients and provide critical care to the masses. Also, for the first time in India, a medical conference will be web-cast live on the Internet reaching a global audience.
