Award for three Tahsildars

MADURAI, FEB.18. Awards were presented to three best-performing Tahsildars in the district at a function here on Tuesday.

Official sources said the Collector, B. Chandra Mohan, handed over trophies and certificates to the Tahsildars of Madurai (South), Vadipatti and Madurai (North), who had won the first, second and third prizes respectively. The awards were given on the basis of their performance reviewed every month.

S. Rajaram, Tahsildar, Madurai (South), won the first prize for "consistently maintaining an outstanding performance" in 13 aspects of revenue activities such as disbursement of old age pension, issuance of house site pattas, prevention of illegal sand quarrying, removal of encroachments, disposal of petitions submitted to the Chief Minister's cell and enforcement of the Revenue Recovery Act during the last three months, the sources said.

During this period, a total of 56 lorries used for illegal sand quarrying in Madurai (South) taluk were seized, Mr. Rajaram said.

In January alone, Rs.2, 18,303 had been collected under the Revenue Recovery Act and Rs.34, 037 under the Urban Land Tax in the taluk. Of the 320 petitions received for patta transfer, 200 were disposed of. A total of 546 petitions seeking old age pension were received. Of this, 337 were sanctioned and 169 rejected.

According to him, the taluk had achieved the Flag Day collection of Rs.75, 000 for a period of one year from December 17, 2002. During 2003-2004, the small savings deposits touched the Rs.75-lakh mark, he said.

The Madurai (South) taluk had scored 1296.4 marks against a total of 1300 during the last three months. S.S. Sivaprasad, Tahsildar, Vadipatti taluk, received the second prize and the third prize was bagged by R. Venkatakrishnan, Tahsildar, Madurai (North).
