This Day That Age
The Railway Budget was presented to the Parliament on February 19 by Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri, Railway Minister. It estimates a net surplus of Rs.5.14 crores for the year 1954-55. Receipts are estimated at Rs.273.25 crores. There is a provision of Rs.95 crores for works, machinery and rolling stock during 1954-55. The dividend to the general revenues will be Rs.35.50 crores. He announced no revision in the passenger or freight rates, but indicated that the Government were determining certain adjustments in the fare and freight rates structure.
