Rupee firms up
MUMBAI,
FEB. 19.
The rupee firmed up against the U.S. dollar on the interbank foreign exchange here today due to fresh foreign fund inflows along with export remittances and after moving in a wide range, ended two paise higher than the previous close.
The Indian unit opened strong at 45.26/27 a dollar and after moving in a range of 45.2400 and 45.3000, ended at the opening level of 45.2600/2700, showing a rise of two paise over the previous close of 45.2850/2900.
Similarly the rupee closed higher against other major world currencies too.
In cross-currency deals, the rupee started strong against the British pound sterling and rose further to 85.61/63 a sterling.
Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the dollar at Rs. 45.2800 and for the single European unit at Rs. 57.5700. PTI
