Letters to the Editor
Sir, The editorial, `Confident move' (Feb. 18) speaks about the Karnataka Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna's confidence of winning the election and returning to power. No doubt, the performance of his Government gives him an advantage. However, conducting the Assembly elections along with the Lok Sabha poll now, after a prolonged drought, will be a heavy burden. There is no pressing reason for simultaneous polls.
A.J. Rangarajan,
* * * Sir, If a government lives up to the people's expectations, the timing of elections will not matter.
Y. Srinivas Reddy,
* * * Sir, When the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, recommends the dissolution of the Lok Sabha it is described by the media as rank political opportunism (which is true). When Mr. Krishna makes a similar recommendation on the Karnataka Assembly, it is hailed as "a confident move." Why?
