Sheila takes up issue with L-G

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB.19. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, is understood to have taken up with the Lieutenant-Governor, Vijai Kapoor, the issue of maltreatment of school children, women and senior citizens by Delhi Police personnel during the visit of the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, to lay the foundation stone of Guru Tegh Bahadur Memorial on Wednesday.

It is learnt that Ms. Dikshit has expressed her unhappiness over the uncharitable remarks made by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rakesh Kumar Bansal, against her and brought the matter to the notice of Mr. Kapoor.

At the same time, the Chief Minister is understood to have directed the State Chief Secretary, Shailja Chandra, to write to the Police Commissioner, K.K. Paul, in this regard and bring the facts to his notice.

It is learnt that the issue came up for discussion between Mr. Kapoor and Ms. Dikshit at Raj Nivas after the conclusion of a meeting on Disaster Management Authority. It is understood that Mr. Kapoor has sought a report on the issue, particularly on the remarks made by the senior police official in reference to Ms. Dikshit and her authority.

The Chief Minister pointed out the ill-treatment meted out to the people on the occasion and stated that those with valid invitation cards were not allowed to enter the venue. If there was a problem with regard to space inside the venue, it should have been left to the Delhi Government officials to take care of this aspect rather than turning away people including esteemed Sikh leaders from the venue, Ms.Dikshit is understood to have told Mr. Kapoor.
