Fresh snowfall in Himachal

SHIMLA, FEB. 19. A fresh bout of snowfall in the upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Uttranchal intensified cold conditions in the region, where warning against avalanche was issued by the weather department today.

Shimla town was lashed by sleet and rains early this morning causing further fall in minimum temperature. However, the day temperature rose marginally after a storm subsided and weather cleared in the afternoon. The tourist resort of Narkanda and Sarahan and Dodra-Kwar area of Shimla district had another spell of moderate snowfall and vehicular traffic was disrupted on Hindustan-Tibet national highway at Narkanda. The tribal valleys of Lahaul, Spiti, Pangi, Pin, Hungrang and Sangla also experienced heavy snowfall and the life within the tribal valleys was paralysed.

In the neighbouring Uttranchal, the Garhwal Himalayas received intermittent snowfall and rains bringing down the temperatures in the hill shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath on Mahashivratri day.
