SHIMLA, FEB.19 . After the controversies plaguing the State Services Selection Board, it's now the turn of State Public Service Commission. The State BJP has demanded the dismissal of the Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh, for alleging threatening the Chairman of State Public Commission. The BJP has taken a great offence to a statement by Chief Minister that the Commission Chairman "should either resign or face a vigilance inquiry''. The HPPSC controversy started after a member of the Commission alleged irregularities in the recruitment of six assistant engineers in the Irrigation and Public Health Department some time ago. The BJP spokesman, Randhir Sharma, has said that there is nothing wrong in initiating a probe but asking the head of constitutional body to resign is nothing but bullying a public servant and restraining him from discharging his duties. He has alleged that the Chief Minister wants to pressurise the Chairman to resign so that he can nominate a person of his choice. He also expressed surprise at the behaviour of the complainant member who approached the Chief Minister instead of the Chairman or the Governor of the State. The Commission Chairman, Dev Raj Sharma, has refused to resign and has said that the Governor should enquire the whole matter. The commission at present has one Chairman and three members. The complainant member was appointed by the present Government while the others were appointees of the previous BJP Government.
