Foreign tourists throng Cuddalore prison
By Our Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE,
FEB. 19.
Three busloads of tourists from South Africa, France and England thronged the Cuddalore Central Prison today to hold a meeting with the imprisoned "godman Premananda." The tourists, who had come to witness the Natyanjali festival in the Natarajar temple at Chidambaram, visited the prison in the morning, seeking permission to meet Premananda. However, the jail authorities denied permission to only three of 75 visitors to "interview" Premananda, along with an advocate from Chennai, Balaji.
As per prison rules, the tourists were given just 30 minutes to interact with Premananda who was undergoing double life imprisonment. In November, he would be completing 10 years in prisons at Tiruchi and Cuddalore.
