TIRUCHI, FEB. 19. J. Amit of the host college claimed a double at the fourth Bishop Solomon Doraiswamy Memorial State-level inter-collegiate tennis tournament conducted by the Bishop Heber College here on Thursday. Amit scored a straight set 6-4, 6-1 win over S. Kannan of SSM College of Engineering, Kumarapalayam, to claim the singles title. Later partnering N. Tausif defeated S. Deiveegan and S. Thivakaran of Mookambikai College of Engineering 6-1, 6-0 in the doubles final. K. Rengarajan distributed the prizes.
Quarterfinals: Deiveegan (Mookambigai College) bt Venkatesh (PSG Arts College, Coimbatore) 9-1, Kannan (SSM College of Engineering) bt Sudakar (PSG Arts College, Coimbatore) 9-3, Amit (Bishop Heber) bt Senthamil Selvan (J.J. College of Engineering) 9-1, Rajesh (SASTRA Deemed University) bt N. Tausif (Bishop Heber) 9-3.
Doubles: semifinals: Amit and Tausif (Bishop Heber) bt Sandeep and Mohan (J.J. College of Engineering) 8-4; S. Deiveegan and S. Thivakaran (Mookambikai Engineering) bt Sudakar and Venkatesh (PSG Arts College) 8-7.
