KOCHI, FEB. 19. The Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, has said that the State will witness an upsurge in the manufacturing sector in the next two years. He was inaugurating `Business-to-Business Meet 2004' here today. Trade representatives from various parts of the country and abroad are participating in the three-day buyer-seller meet. The Minister said a `feel-good factor' was existing in Kerala. The developments in the tourism, information technology and education sectors were often eclipsed by the hue and cry raised by a few political leaders and vested interests. But the Government was determined to go ahead with the reform process by implementing various development programmes in the next two years, after which a remarkable change would be witnessed in the State economy. The self-confidence gained through programmes like the present meet as well as last year's Global Investor Meet (GIM) would bring in positive results. Though there was some scepticism on his part to organise the present programme, the confidence of officials had proved otherwise. Kerala had tremendous strengths in various sectors and these were being showcased at the meet. He hoped that the meet would result in enduring trade relationships with other States and the world. In fact, several huge investment proposals were in the pipeline, based on the investment climate generated during GIM, the Minister said. He said the State was keen to create a Kerala brand and the present effort would go a long way in achieving the goal. ``We are hopeful that we will come out with a Kerala brand that will capture the markets around the world,'' he said. There would be an effective mechanism to ensure quality and purity of the products. A permanent centre would be set up for industrial exhibition depending on the response to the present meet, he said. The State Planning Board vice-chairman, V. Ramachandran, who delivered the presidential address, said ``many people have not yet realised the changes taking place in the State. But the change will be visible in the next two years.'' K. Mohandas, Principal Secretary, Industries, in his welcome speech, said that a dramatic change for the better was taking place in the State. The initiatives in the industrial sector were part of the rediscovery of Kerala.
