Cloudy day ahead

NEW DELHI FEB. 19. The Capital will wake up to a misty morning on Friday with the minimum temperature expected to hover around 12 degree Celsius. The sky will remain partly cloudy throughout the day, the weatherman said.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Thursday were 26.5 and 13.1 degrees Celsius respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum of 26.9 and 14.1 degrees Celsius.

Safdarjung recorded a maximum humidity of 93 per cent and a minimum of 42 per cent. At Palam, the maximum and minimum humidity were 93 per cent and 53 per cent respectively.

Stabbed

NEW DELHI FEB. 19. A 26-year-old man was stabbed and robbed of his mobile phone at Nand Nagri in North-East Delhi on Wednesday night. According to the police, Arvind, a resident of Harsh Vihar, was returning home from Noida when he was accosted by four persons in Nand Nagri last night. They stabbed him and robbed him of his mobile phone. Arvind was taken to GTB Hospital where his condition is reported to be stable.

Injured

NEW DELHI FEB. 19. Seven persons, including a newly married couple, sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in was hit by a truck at Seelampur in North-East Delhi today.

According to the police, Aasif and his wife, Soni, who were married on Wednesday at Jama Masjid, were returning in a Maruti car along with family members -- Wahid, his wife, Parveen, Salma (19), Shehnaz (22) and six-year-old Ilma -- when a truck hit their vehicle at Shastri Nagar intersection in Seelampur early in the morning. All the injured were taken to Sushruta Trauma Centre. While Ilma, Aasif, Soni and Wahid were discharged after first aid, others are being treated in the hospital.

Killed

NEW DELHI FEB. 19. In a freak incident, a 25-year-old man was killed while trying to switch on a generator in a factory at Okhla in South Delhi today.

According to the police, Jai Kumar, who works in a lock manufacturing factory at E-Block, Okhla, Phase-II, went to switch on the generator around 10-30 a.m. As the machine started his muffler got caught in the fan of the generator and he got sucked into it. The right part of his head was smashed. Suspended

NEW DELHI FEB. 19. A Delhi police constable has been suspended after his carbine went off accidentally in New Delhi today. No one was injured in the incident.

According to the police, Constable Pawan Kumar, a commando of the Second Battalion of the Delhi Armed Police, was attached to the Police Control Room for the past three months on temporary duty. Around 12-55 p.m., Pawan's van stopped on Bishambhar Das Marg in New Delhi. He came out of the vehicle and began checking his carbine, which accidentally went off. Two shots were fired, while the third round got stuck in the chamber.

Taking note of the lapse, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Second Battalion) suspended Pawan Kumar and has initiated department inquiry against him.

Held

NEW DELHI FEB. 19. A man allegedly carrying 22 kg of poppy husk was arrested from Karol Bagh in Central Delhi by a Police Control Room staff on Wednesday.

The accused, Nanhe, is a resident of Majnu Ka Tila. He was coming from the Ridge side towards Karol Bagh when the PCR staff intercepted him on suspicion and searched his belongings. They recovered two bags contained poppy husk and then handed him over to the local police.
