AIIMS students meet Sushma

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 19. Students of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) called on the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Sushma Swaraj, at her residence today seeking her intervention in the issue of the rustication of six students.

The Minister, who is also the AIIMS president, reportedly asked the students to attend classes and answer their roll call. She also told them that the she would look into the entire episode and then decide on revoking the rustication orders only after the students comply with the mandatory 75 per cent attendance demanded by the Institute.

Continuing on lines of the Union Minister, acting Deputy Director (Administration) AIIMS, Mayank Sharma, today added, "We have asked the students to join their classes and answer their roll call and only then will we look into the possibility of revoking the rustication orders.'' The students today also met with the Dean, AIIMS, H.K. Tiwari, and the Faculty member at the Institute. And while it is yet to be decided whether they would be attending class tomorrow, members of the student's union said that their priority now was to ensure that "the careers of six of their classmates shouldn't be spoilt."
