By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 19. The Capital is gearing up for glamour as the fifth chapter of India's annual business to business of fashion event, Lakme India Fashion Week, will be taking over the city from April 29 to May 5. Announcing the list of 57 fashion designers who would be participating this time, executive director, Fashion Design Council of India, Vinod Kaul, during a press conference held in the city today, said, "LIFW has been growing each year and that is reflective of the real growth of the industry. This is a platform which encourages the business of fashion, awareness of fashion and infuses new and fresh talent in the industry''.

To be held at Hotel The Grand here, the theme for this year's event is "Join the Fashion Movement'' and is aimed at providing industry professionals with the opportunity to form trade linkages within Indian and abroad. "The theme has been chosen because we want everyone from the retailers to the buying houses, the designers, make-up artists, choreographers and anyone else associated with the fashion industry to be a part of it. It is a celebration of everyone coming together,'' said Mr. Kaul.

Apart from the regulars, there are seven first time participants - Varun Bahl, Shane Peacock, Nainika Karan, Vidhi Singhania, Dabiri, Namrata Joshipura and Narender Kumar - this time round.

The seven-day event includes 35 shows with the 57 participating designers displaying pret (ready to wear) and diffusion (line between ready-to-wear) lines. A number of "Business of Fashion'' seminars have also been planned along with the ramp shows.

Speaking about Lakme's association with the fashion week, business head, Lakme Lever, Anil Chopra said, "Fashion and beauty are closely linked. The fashion week is one of Lakme's biggest initiatives. During the fashion week, we will set up a Lakme beauty salon at the venue where people can experience Lakme products and services''. The title sponsor for the show, Lakme has been associated with the fashion week since it was conceived five years ago.
