Thiruvananthapuram Feb. 20. Anup Kurian has won the 13th G. Aravindan Puraskaram, instituted by the Chalachithra Film Society for the best debutant filmmaker, for his maiden English film, "Mansarovar". Announcing this at a press conference here today, the jury chairman, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, said Anup Kurian was selected for the award for his novelty of approach, the innovative plot development and overall excellence in the medium. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, citation and a memento. "Mansarovar" was selected from among 10 films, including "Ente Kochu Kautukam", "Pisakippoya thalakal", "Gaurisankaram", "Guda", "Maargam" and "Saphalam". The award would be presented at a function to be held here on March 15 in connection with the 13th death anniversary of the noted film-maker, G. Aravindan.
