NAGERCOIL, FEB.21. Work on establishing separate drinking water projects for the Puthalam and Thengamputhur town panchayats have commenced on an outlay of Rs.1 crore at Somiyarpuram and Kulathuvilai on Thursday. The Collector, Rajesh Lakhoni, laid the foundation stones for the projects in the presence of the Nagercoil MLA, S. Austin, at functions held at Somiyarpuram and Kulathuvilai. The Puthalam drinking water scheme would provide 70 liters per capita per day and the project envisaged sinking of five deep borewells and utilising 16 existing overhead tanks for giving water to habitations. The Thengamputhur project, aimed at providing 70 LPCD water to residents, would involve sinking of five borewells and using 16 overhead tanks that had already been constructed. The projects would be completed in three months.
