NAGERCOIL, FEB.21. An undue delay in releasing funds by the State and Central Governments has hampered the execution of developmental works in the district, according to the Chairman of the Kanyakumari district panchayat union council, T. Mano Thangaraj. Talking to reporters here on Friday, he said many developmental works could not be carried out, as there had been no flow of funds during 2002-03 and 2003-04. The District Decentralised Plan funds, for instance, had not been released so far and the district panchayat funds amounting to Rs.one crore for both the years and the State Finance Commission funds amounting to Rs.one crore were yet to be received. Claiming that the funds earmarked under the SFC and the Eleventh Finance Commission were too meagre to implement big projects, Mr. Mano Thangaraj said even the funds under the Jawahar Rozgar Yojana and the Employment Assurance Scheme had not been sanctioned till now.
