SIVAGANGA, FEB.21. The district administration will give a facelift to Pillayarpatti in Thirupatthur taluk to attract both foreign and domestic tourists, the Collector, J. Radhakrishnan, has said. Launching a `clean and green' campaign at Pillayarpatti today, he said the Department of HR&CE had allotted Rs.9 lakhs for construction of a `mandapam' near the Rajagopuram of the Pillayarpatti Temple. A sum of Rs.15 lakhs had also been allotted by the Government for widening and strengthening of roads in and around Pillayarpatti. The district administration would give Rs.5 lakhs from the small savings incentive fund to provide infrastructure for the benefit of pilgrims as well as tourists. Earlier, a human chain was formed in which more than 3,500 persons, including school students, members of self-help groups and NGO's, representatives of local bodies and others, participated. They removed shrubs and garbage and planted 200 saplings in and around the Pillayarpatti Temple as part of the `clean and green' campaign.
