BANGALORE, FEB. 21. Information technology spend in the healthcare sector in the U.S. may not be reaching as spectacular a figure as in the financial sector but is still around $15 billion annually. A lot of this is now outsourced and one of the leading vendors in the business is First Consulting Group (FCG) with headquarters in Long Beach, California. In February 2003, FCG took over Paragon Inc., a specialist in healthcare software. Paragon's Indian development facility, located here, is now FCG Software Services (India) Pvt. Ltd. This subsidiary has doubled in size in the past one year to 350 professionals and is now certified at SEI CMM Level 5. Avinash C. Agrawal , the Managing Director of FCG India , sees a bigger role for the Indian facility in the next few years. "Till now we have been doing product development and projects,'' he says, "but, going ahead, we will be getting into managing applications being used by clients in the West. We will be making an entry into Web-enablement of health services. In a year from now, we hope to have healthcare domain experts in our team and become involved in front-end consulting in the U.S. and Europe.'' Mr. Agrawal estimates that to tackle all this activity, FCG India will be increasing its staff strength to 500 by the end of June this year and to 1000 by the end of 2004. He sees FCG India growing to 5,000 people by the end of 2006, by which time the Indian healthcare sector will be ripe for using FCG's services.
