NALGONDA: Feb. 21. Even as Telugu Desam Party leaders and cadre are getting ready for the Vijayabheri meeting, naxalites of the People's War today shot dead a party activist, Ramawath Chandru, at Bandameedi thanda in Devarakonda mandal. According to information reaching here, two naxalites took Chandru (45) from his fields and fired three rounds at him branding him a police informer. Chandru was the ward member of Mainampally gram panchayat. The tribal and his wife, Ramawath Devi, made a plea to the naxals to spare him but the extremists were unmoved. The naxalites took him behind a haystack after ordering his wife to stay at a distance and shot at him, killing him on the spot. The victim is survived by wife and five children. Quoting eyewitnesses, villagers said 10 naxalites targeted Chandru as they suspected that he had given information to the police that led to the exchange of fire near the Kasaramvaagu area on January 23. The PW had issued a warning to TDP activists not to attend the Vijayabheri meeting to be held in Hyderabad on Sunday.
