ADILABAD, FEB. 21. The Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, Padala Bhoomanna, on Friday laid the foundation stone for the proposed Rs. 3.50-crore textile park in Adilabad town. The programme, organised on the premises of the Horticulture Research Station of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University in Mavala gram panchayat on the outskirts of the town, appeared to have been held in hurry with not more than 15 persons attending it. It held only after 7 p.m. Besides the Minister, the district Collector, Vikas Raj, two officials from the Handlooms and Textiles Department, the former ZP chief, Suhasini Reddy, and some of the Minister's followers attended the function. Surprisingly, not even a single journalist was present when the Minister laid the foundation stone. The Adilabad textile park is part of the five apparel parks and 12 textiles parks planned by the State Government with an allocation of Rs. 231 crores to provide employment to 15 lakh workers and create export target of $ 5 billion from this sector by 2010. The Adilabad textile park is planned to be taken up on 40 acres of land and once functional, it would create jobs for over 8,000 workers.
