Anantapur RDO held

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, FEB. 21. The police arrested the RDO of Anantapur, K. Geeta, here on Saturday on the charge of misappropriation of Government funds of Rs. 46 lakhs. The Judicial First Class Magistrate, Jayaraj, remanded her till March 5.

Cases were booked under the Sections 409 and 420 of the IPC against the RDO. Charges of criminal breach of trust by a Government servant, cheating and dishonesty, including delivery of property or destroying valuable security, were framed against her.

A team of police, led by the Anantapur DSP, K. Subrahmanyam, the One Town Inspector, N. Sambasiva Reddy, and the Sub-Inspector, C.M. Gangaiah, went to the private hospital, where she got herself admitted yesterday evening after the charges were fixed by the district administration, at 2.40 p.m. and arrested her.

She was later taken to the nearby women police station and from there to the court. On the plea of the RDO that she should be allowed to stay in the private hospital even after the arrest due to her poor health condition, the judge clarified that the jail superintendent would take care of her health.

She would be examined by the local doctor first and moved to the Government hospital, if required. She could be admitted to a private hospital only if the Government hospital concerned had no facilities required for her treatment.

Ms. Geeta told newsmen during her arrest that she was innocent and the misappropriation of funds was a result of forgery. She claimed that she had already complained about the loss of cheque book, the leaves of which were used to draw the money. She was moved to the sub-jail on the outskirts of the town immediately after the pronouncement of the judge at around 5 p.m.
