Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, FEB. 21. The secretary of the Pondicherry unit of the CPI (M), T. Murugan, and his CPI counterpart, N. Kalainathan, today said with uncertainty still persisting over whether the Congress or the Pattali Makkal Katchi would field the nominee in the Lok Sabha poll, they were virtually in a dilemma to take a decision on their support. At a joint press conference here, they said their parties' aim was to defeat the BJP. While Mr. Kalainathan said his party was closely watching the developments in Pondicherry, the CPI (M) leader said his party would adhere to its high command directives in letter and in spirit.
Both the leaders appealed to all sections of workers to participate in the one-day all-India general strike, called for February 24. Mr. Kalainathan said workers of both the parties would stage road rokos simultaneously at five centres in Pondicherry and Karaikal that day.
Campus violence
Mr. Murugan called upon the Administration to take steps to ensure that there was no recurrence of violence on the premises of the Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College here. Referring to the recent incidents of assault and inflicting of bleeding injuries by students in a clash among themselves, Mr. Murugan said today that the police and the government machinery should take to task all those indulged in violence. He said the administration should shift the college to the newly constructed campus at Kalapet.
