Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, FEB. 21. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, expressed shock over the alarming incidence of suicides by teenagers in Pondicherry. He said according to a recent study, it was found that every month at least 15 youths were committing suicide. This was a matter of concern and dismay. Launching various welfare schemes of the Department of Women and Child Development to ameliorate the lot of women here on Friday, Mr. Rangasamy said the Free Family Counselling centre launched on the occasion would address the problems of the individuals. Welfare measures had been implemented without any hiccup and the people belonging to the `below poverty line category' would be distributed free dhotis and saris before the end of March. Stressing that literacy was an important ingredient for the people, he said mutual understanding and also give and take policy would always be of help to prevent occurrence of skirmishes among the members of a family.
