New PAP pact harmful to State: VS
By Our Staff Reporter
PALAKKAD,
FEB. 21
. The Leader of Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, has urged the State Government to make basic changes in the technical committee report jointly prepared by the officials of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on the renewal of Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) agreement as it goes against the interests of the State.
Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday during his visit to the drought-affected areas of Chittur taluk, Mr. Achuthanandan said the committee report went against the recommendations of the ad hoc committee of the State Assembly on the Parambikulam-Mullaperiyar water sharing agreements.
He said he would meet the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, and submit the proposals of the Opposition on the renewal of PAP agreement.
Mr. Achuthanandan said the move to give the waters of Anamalayar and Neerar to Tamil Nadu would affect the flow of water in Periyar.
