KANNUR, FEB. 21. Friends and relatives paid glowing tributes to retired Air Commodore, P.C. Ramachandran, who died in Secunderabad, the other day. Ramachandran was 87. He was born on October 18, 1917, in Kannur as the eldest of the eight children of Banker Kunhikannan, who was the son of Potheri Kunhambu Vakkeel, the first chairman of Kannur Municipality. According to the members of the Potheri family here, Ramachandran died of old age. He is survived by his wife, Katherine, whom he had married in England while he was serving in the RAF. They have no children. They had settled in Secunderabad since his retirement from IAF in 1970, the relatives said. According to Moorkoth Ramunni, former Indian Air Force pilot-turned administrator, Ramachandran was the first Indian to have received the Air Force Cross from the RAF and the first person in the State to receive civil licence for flying in the 1930s. He was an expert in flying aircraft ranging from twin-engine to four-engine.
