KOCHI, FEB. 21. The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church will extend support to the political parties or candidates who would protect the interests of the Church during the coming Lok Sabha election, Verghese Kallappara, chief spokesman of the Church, said here today. Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, Fr. Kallappara said that the Church would demand that the UDF should allow at least two seats for representatives of the Church since the party had more leaders belonging to the Jacobite Church. However, he claimed that the Church was not close to any political party in particular. He said that in the present Indian context, religion and politics could not have separate existence. Though the Jacobite Church had no politics of its own, the members of the Church had their own politics, with all political parties having leaders from the Church, he said.
