KANNUR, FEB. 21. The Malayalam novelist, M. Mukundan, has said that the current tendency among the people of Kerala to return to their roots and traditions does not augur well for a forward-looking society. "Once we left our homes and native places in search of new experiences. Now the tendency is to come back. But this return journey should never be allowed to obstruct your journey forward," warned Mr. Mukundan while delivering the keynote address at the inaugural function of the Victor George Photo Exhibition organised by the Press Club here today. The people of the State appeared to be inclined towards sentimentalism, something that Victor George always tried to avoid in his photographs, he said. The cultural field in the State was brimming with activities in the State after a gap of two or three decades, he said adding that all these activities were centred around temples. "Of late, the Malayali has become prosperous. His body displays that prosperity, but his mind is afflicted," Mr. Mukundan said adding that this was the reason why the people were returning to God.
