Be wary of `India Shining' campaign: Agnivesh

By Our Staff Correspondent

UDUPI, (KARNATAKA) FEB. 21. Swami Agnivesh, working president of the World Council of Arya Samaj, said here on Saturday that people should not fall prey to the "India Shining" campaign of the BJP-led Central Government. The Ram temple issue was on and off the election agenda of the BJP according to its necessities. Wearing the "mask of Ram Bhakti," vested interests were misusing and exploiting Hindu religious sentiments.

If this trend was allowed to continue, it was doubtful if, a few years from now, Hinduism would be recognisable from other violent and vicious ideologies. What external enemies of Hinduism could not do to it in 2,000 years, the internal enemies — "Hindutvavadis" — had done in a few years, he said.

Exploiting the pious sentiments of innocent people, the Sangh Parivar was pursuing a conspiracy to hijack Hinduism. For them, Ram was only a convenient ladder to reach political power, he said.
