TIRUNELVELI, FEB. 21. Blaming the Communist Party of India-backed Tamil Nadu Government Employees Union (TNGEU) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-backed Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA) "for misguiding their members and unnecessarily dragging teachers and Government employees to go strike last year," the president, Tamil Nadu Government Officials Union, G. Suryamurthy, said members of these associations should join his union if they really wanted "to settle all outstanding issues with the Government amicably." "I am even prepared to quit the president's post to enable newcomers from the politically-stimulated TNGEU and TNGEA to occupy high positions in our 84-year old union," he told reporters here today. Mr. Suryamurthy alleged that the TNGEA and TNGEU were wantonly undermining his talks with the Ministers and officials to get the dismissal orders revoked. "Besides inciting the dismissed employees to approach the State Administrative Tribunal, these unions challenged the validity of the Tamil Nadu Essential Services Maintenance Act and the Essential Services Maintenance Act in the Tribunal though these laws did not fall under its purview. Fortunately, our talks with the Government fructified at the right time to get the dismissal orders repealed," he said. Thanking the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, for reinstating all 999 dismissed employees, he appealed to her to issue necessary orders revoking the punishments handed over to the reinstated employees and teachers.
