KOCHI, FEB. 21. The State conference of the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithy (KVVES) will be held on February 28 and 29 at Palakkad, the KVVES State general secretary, Alex M. Chacko, said. All the shops in the State will remain closed on February 28 because of the State meeting, said Mr. Chacko, who was addressing a news conference here on Saturday. He said that a district committee meeting of the Samithy slated to be held at Paravur on February 26 - 27 was illegal and in violation of the court orders. The former district officer bearers of the Ekopana Samithy, P.A.M. Ibrahim and S. Divakaran Pillai, had been removed from the primary membership of the organisation and the stay order issued by the Ernakulam Munsiff Court favouring them had been stayed by the Kerala High Court, said Mr. Chacko. He said that the district conferences of the Samithy in many districts including Ernakulam had already been held. He said that the traders would protest against the move to implement the value added tax (VAT), which had earlier been abandoned owing to protest from the traders, in a new format, as given in the State Budget.
