Kollam
By Our Staff Reporter
KOLLAM, FEB. 21. The Congress leader, Prathapavarma Thampan, MLA, has said it was sheer ignorance on the part of the Electricity Minister, K. Muraleedharan, about protocols, which made him make adverse comments against him (Mr. Thampan) on the issue a function organised to lay the foundation stone for a court complex at Paravur, near here, last. When asked about the controversy on denying him the role to preside over the function, Mr. Thampan told reporters here today at that time Mr. Muraleedharan was the KPCC president and in that capacity he had commented over the ugly scenes, which erupted at the function. When asked whether he would campaign for Mr. Muraleedharan's victory from Wadakkancherry, Mr. Thampan said as a Congressman, if invited, he would campaign for it, "but then the final decision vests with the voters of the constituency'', he said. Mr. Thampan said the claim made by the former MP, P. Rajendran, over the utilisation of the MP's Local Area Development (LAD) Fund was far from the truth. He said as per the claims made by Mr. Rajendran, the LAD utilisation stands at 110 per cent while Parliament records show that the same was well below 74 per cent. He alleged that Mr. Rajendran was making tall claims without any base. While Mr. Rajendran had failed to present the cause of Kollam in Parliament, the former Kollam MP, N.K. Premachandran, had done much for the constituency, Mr. Thampan said.
