Thanjavur Feb. 21. In this era of globalisation, opportunities for engineers are abundant all over the world, B. M. Naik, Chancellor-nominee for the Swami Ramanand Teerth University, Nanded, Maharashtra, here yesterday. Speaking at the fourth College Day function of the P. R. Engineering College, Naik said that in India, there were only five engineers for 1000 population. But in Japan there were 75 engineers per 1000 population. The per capita income was 30,000 dollars in Japan while it was 400 dollars in India. Hence there was a need for more engineers to help the country to increase the per capita income. A. A. Ghatol, principal, Government College of Engineering, Pune, said the world was changing fast and the country advancing in the fields of technology, agriculture, electronics etc. He distributed prizes to top three rank holders in various courses in the Anna University and the Bharathidasan University. He also distributed appreciation certificates to students, who recorded cent percent attendance. He honoured teachers who were instrumental in securing cent per cent results in their departments. P.Murugesan, correspondent of the college, and M. Rao, principal of the college also spoke.
