MARGAO, FEB. 21. An injury time goal by substitute Alvito Rodriques helped Haywards Sporting Club hold Vasco Sports Club to 1-1 draw and share the points in the second phase of the National Football League match here at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Saturday. Vasco shot into the lead in the 59th minute through Marcos Pereira whose free kick shot found the net 1-0. Sporting Club levelled the score through substitute Alvito Rodriques in the injury time. With this drawn match both the teams remained on 16 points each. Both the teams were far from impressive in the opening half, which saw very few goal-bound moves. Both struggled to find their bearing and the occasional raids never really looked dangerous. The match came to life only in the second half when Vasco shot into the lead. Vasco moved ahead in the 59th minute through Marcos Pereira, whose free kick beat the rival goalkeeper hands down. Vasco could have consolidated in the 73rd minute had not Marcos Pereira's shot sailed over the bar off a pass from Amachi. Sporting restored the parity in the injury time through substitute Alvito Rodriques, who came in place of Abdul Latif Seriki. There were misses galore. Vasco came up with its first move in the 6th minute from the start with Seby Dias passing to Anthony Fernandes whose shot however went wide. Then in the 11th minute again a long drive from the top of the box by Venu Jose missed the mark by inches. Sporting Club had a chance to score in the 16th minute of the first half but Vasco's goalkeeper Rogario Remos brilliantly saved a shot from inside the box by Abdul Latif Seriki. In the 37th minute Sushant Mathew after receiving a pass from Dennis Cabral unleashed a full blooded shot but it landed straight into the hands of rival goalkeeper Felix D'Souza. Four minutes before the breather Vasco goalkeeper Remos rescued his team by timely clearing the ball with his right footer off a shot taken by Sporting Joseph Pereira off a pass from Sereki. After change of ends both continued to attack for the match winner. Sporting had almost taken a lead in the 50th minute but Joseph Pereira's shot hit the cross bar. UNI
