BELLARY, FEB. 21. M.Y. Ghorpade, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, said today that technology should reach remote areas of the country. Speaking after inaugurating the decennial celebrations of the Postgraduate Centre of Gulbarga University here, Mr. Ghorpade said in countries such as the U.S., the comprehension level of students had been gradually decreasing owing to the excessive dependence on technology and electronic aids of learning. He stressed the need for setting up centres of excellence on the lines of the Indian Institute of Technology in the State. He expressed satisfaction over the competence level of students of the management course and hoped that the postgraduate centre would become a centre of excellence. S.P. Hiremath, former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, said the university should take steps to develop the postgraduate centre by introducing new courses. Vinay Mrutyunjaya, Regional Council Member of Southern Region of Institute of Chartered Accountants' of India, M.V. Patil, Finance Officer, Gulbarga University, L.A. Patnaik, president of the Bellary District Chartered Accountants' Association, and Satish Kandra, member, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Board of the university, were present. B.K. Prabhakar, Director of the centre, Sandur, welcomed the gathering. Sushila Sanghapure, Chairperson, Department of Chemistry, Gulbarga University, proposed a vote of thanks.
