Govt. favours private-public tie up in education

By Our Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE, FEB. 21. The Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, said today that the Government would encourage schools run by it to have tie-ups with private enterprises.

Speaking after inaugurating a commercial complex built near a school here, Mr. Krishna said the Government could not provide adequate assistance to schools run by it and they should take steps to mobilise resources on their own.

The commercial complex built near the school here would generate income to it. The Government would encourage such a private-public partnership.

He commended S.S. Mallikarjun, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, for his efforts in establishing the complex.

The complex had been built near the school where the former Chief Minister, S. Nijalingappa, had studied, he added.

Earlier, the police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse a group of people from Bharamasagara, which sought Congress ticket to H. Anjaneya, near the venue.
