HASSAN, FEB. 21. A total of 5,260 out of the 5,659 development works taken up in Alur-Sakleshpur constituency in the last four years have been completed, the Alur-Sakleshpur MLA, B.B. Shivappa, has said. A sum of Rs. 52.2 crores, out of the allotted Rs. 63.31 crores, has been spent. Mr. Shivappa said at a press conference here that the remaining 399 works would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 11 crores. Priority had been accorded to tackle the drinking water shortage. A sum of Rs. 2.75 crores had been spent on the Ganjigere, Kyatanahalli, Raamenahalli, Merve, Hosapatna, and Managinahalla Lift Irrigation Projects for irrigating 4599 acres in 32 villages. Another Rs. 6.70 crores was needed. Mr. Shivappa claimed that he was instrumental in taking up the Vaatehole Irrigation Project, which was languishing from the past several years, and had spent Rs. 8.36 crores on it so far. It needed another Rs. 2 crores for completion. He said that out of the 245 km. of roads in Alur taluk, only 73 km. had been asphaltede. Work on the remaining 172 km. would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 7.5 crores. A total of 1619 houses were distributed under various schemes in Alur and Sakleshpur taluks and Rs. 3.23 crore had been spent for the purpose. Fifty temples had been covered under the Aradhana scheme and Rs. 1.1 crore had been spent for the construction of a 30-bed hospital in Alur and quarters for the staff.
