On account of general strike, all branches of public and private sector banks and offices of all insurance companies will be closed and the operations or transactions come to a standstill allover the country on Tuesday, according to the All India Co-Ordination Committee of Unions in Financial Sector (AICCUFS).

The February 24 strike, called `Strike for Strike' is aimed at demonstrating the right of trade unions to strike in the light of the observations made by the Supreme Court in this regard, the convener of the AICCUFS, S.N. Sahu, said on Saturday. In response to the call given by the trade unions, officers and employees of public and private sector banks and insurance companies, numbering over 15 lakhs, would go on strike on Tuesday to protest against privatisation moves of the Government and resist attacks on trade union movement in the country, he said.
