Clear skies

CHENNAI. FEB. 21. The minimum temperature on Sunday will be between 21 and 22 degree Celsius. The skies will be mainly clear.

On Saturday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 31.2 and 31.7 degree Celsius and a minimum of 20.9 and 20.8. The humidity was 57 and 48 per cent.

Computer training

A computer training centre for children of sex workers was today inaugurated by Bimal Charles, Project Director of AIDS Prevention and Control. Children will be divided into batches and trained in basics of computers over three months.

Seminar on languages

Various Hindi associations have come together under the leadership of the Tamil Nadu Multi-lingual Women Writers' Association to conduct a national seminar on the `Role of languages in preservation of Indian culture' in connection with the Peetarohana Swarna Jayanthi celebrations of the Kanchi Acharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswati, on Thursday. The Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag, coordinated.

Programme for youth

The Family Planning Association of India, Chennai Branch, organised a one-day programme for youth called `Yuva Sakthi'. N. Mahalingam, Chairman, Sakthi Group of Companies, Sarojini Varadappan, president of the Women's Indian Association, and M.C. Watsa participated.

Small savings award

The award distribution function under the Small Savings of Chennai district was held on Saturday. The T. Nagar Head Post Office was chosen the best HPO in the city for 2003 by a committee headed by D.P. Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Chennai Corporation. V. Loganathan, Assistant Director of Small Savings, Chennai Corporation, said the city had a gross and net collection of Rs. 1,242 crores and Rs. 574 crores up to January 2004 against Rs. 841 crores and Rs. 382 crores during the corresponding period last year. T. Murthy, Commissioner of Small Savings, participated.

A five-day `Total Productive Maintenance facilitator training course' will be held here from February 23 by the Federation of AOTS Alumni Association of India, says a release from ABK-AOTS Dosokai Tamil Nadu centre. The programme is for participants from alumni societies of AOTS in Japan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Egypt and Ghana.
