MANGALORE, FEB. 21. The President of the Karnataka State Small Industries Association, Janardhan, has said that the recent developments in printing technology have changed the pace of printing and printers should keep themselves abreast of the latest technology. He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a printers' convention at the "Karavali Print Fest 2004" organised by the Karavali Printers' Association, here on Saturday. Mr. Janardhan said there were about 12,000 printing industrial units in the State. Of them, 92 per cent had switched over from letterpress to offset printing. The onset of digital printing had changed the very concept of printing. He said Germany, Japan, England, U.S., and India were leading the world in printing technology. He noted that Dakshina Kannada was one of the pioneering districts in the State to adopt printing technology as the first Kannada newspaper, Mangaluru Samachara, was printed in Mangalore in 1867. The President of the Karnataka Offset Printers' Association, Balachandra, said there was a need to acquaint printers with the latest advancement in printing technology as it would become inevitable for all persons in the printing industry to have minimum knowledge of printing. The President of the Karnataka State Printers' Association, Ashok Kumar, the Joint Director of the District Industries Centre, S.G. Hegde, participated in the augural function. Earlier, an exhibition on printing was inaugurated at U. Srinivas Mallya Indoor Stadium. The exhibition will continue till February 23.
