HYDERABAD, FEB. 21. About six lakh children in the age group of 0 to 5 years will be administered polio vaccine in the twin cities on Sunday. The vaccine would be administered in 3,782 polio booths arranged all over the twin cities from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The vaccine would be administered on the next two days by house-to-house visits by the pulse polio programme personnel to cover children who had missed out on Sunday, according to an official release from MCH. A total of 15,128 personnel from various Government departments, women groups, NGOs and other organisations have been drafted for the programme. The polio booths have also bee set up at nursing homes, anganwadi centres, community halls, play schools, railway and bus stations and the airport and in all the 811 slums in the city. Besides 356 mobile teams have been arranged to cover the construction labour and others with no specific dwellings and also at the venue of the TDP public meeting and places where accommodation has been arranged for women coming from all corners of the State for the meeting.
Programme extended
Meanwhile, the MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran, said that the programme slated for Sunday has been extended by a day in view of the traffic restrictions for the TDP meet in the city. All arrangements have been made to administer polio drops in the 3,782 booths on February 23 also, she added.
