Curfew in Ujjain
UJJAIN,
FEB. 21.
Curfew was imposed tonight in seven police stations of Ujjain after members of two communities pelted stones at each other over removal of shops in front of a mosque in Chamunda Mata square area.
``Curfew has been imposed in the sensitive areas of seven police stations following tensions,'' the Ujjain District Collector, Rajesh Rajora, said.
About 10 persons, including two senior police officers, suffered injuries in the stone-pelting. Trouble began when members of the minority community objected to removal of shops and the majority community countered and questioned the delay in removal of shops.
Police lobbed teargas shells and used water canons, besides resorting to lathicharge, Dr. Rajora said. - PTI
