`Attacks on X'ians aimed at making political capital'
By Our Special Correspondent
KOCHI,
FEB. 22.
The All-India Catholic Union has alleged that the increasing number of attacks on Christians in North India is in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The recent tonsure of five Christian women who had refused to reconvert themselves into Hinduism, and the attacks in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chattisgarh and Jharkandh were all aimed at making electoral capital from the likely consolidation of the majority vote bank by means of targeting the minority Christians, the union national secretary, Jose Vithayathil, has said.
Mr. Jose urged the Union Government and the Orissa Government to order a judicial inquiry into the tonsure incident immediately. He pointed out that Christians had fled from many Orissa villages.
