BANGALORE, FEB. 22. Despite the recent announcement of the Minister for Higher Education, G. Parameshwara, that there will be no parallel common entrance test (CET) for engineering admission, the Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges in Karnataka (COMED-K) has said that it will conduct an all-India entrance test. "Some colleges may have adopted the CET. But we will conduct the national-level test even if only 10 or 15 engineering colleges under the consortium wants it," R.L. Jalappa, COMED-K chairman, told The Hindu . Twenty-nine engineering college managements make up the consortium. Mr. Jalappa said the consortium had written to these managements, asking them whether they wanted a separate test. Not all colleges, it now transpired, had agreed to admit students through the CET. Asked whether the colleges would indicate the percentage of non-Karnataka seats in their management quota, Mr. Jalappa said there was no provision for such a division under the Supreme Court judgement. Mwanwhile, private medical and dental college managements have been given time till February 25 to respond to a letter from the State Government on the proposal to fill all medical and dental management quota seats through the CET. The consortium is not likely to respond to the letter, according to sources.
Veterinary course
The candidates seeking admission to B.V.Sc.&AH and Agriculture and allied courses in the Universities of Agricultural Sciences in Bangalore and Dharwad for the academic year 2004-05 should take the CET. Besides this, they should submit separate applications to the respective agricultural universities.
