BANGALORE, FEB. 22. As many as 1,224 candidates were awarded certificates in various graduate, postgraduate, and diploma courses at the 15th convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University, Bangalore Regional Centre, here on Saturday. The convocation was held simultaneously through teleconferencing at all the 23 regional centres of the university, and the main convocation at the headquarters (New Delhi) was transmitted live at all regional centres. A student from the Bangalore Regional Centre, N.R.S. Murthy, was among the gold medallists. Speaking on the occasion, M.S. Thimmappa, Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University, said universities should strive to inculcate an element of spirituality among students. "Education must contribute to the making of a productive person. Each university should make a survey of the knowledge and skills of productivity required in organisations, enterprises, industries, and other corporate and government concerns so that a curriculum can be prepared to contribute to that productivity," he added.
