KHAMMAM, FEB. 22. The death of a two-month-old baby on the premises of the district headquarters hospital triggered protests today. Parents and relatives of the girl child, supported by political parties, staged a dharna in front of the hospital blaming doctors for the death. They relented following the intervention of revenue officials who assured them of justice. According to reports, B. Venkamma was referred to the district headquarters hospital from Tirumalayapalem as she was taken ill due to insect bite. The baby was admitted to the hospital late in the night but the doctor concerned could not attend on the child before she breathed her last. The parents of the child complained to hospital authorities and political parties about treatment meted out to the child in the hospital. The family members squatted near the hospital demanding action against the doctor. The mandal revenue officer, who rushed to the hospital, prevailed on the protesters. He assured them of possible help. He said the death of the girl child would be investigated into and action would be taken if anyone found responsible for the death. The body of the child was sent for post- mortem.
